Industrial Design Registration in Turkey

We prepare and file design applications directly with TÜRKPATENT, including the preparation and review of representations so that they meet the Office’s formal requirements. Several designs can be combined in a single multiple application, and publication can be deferred where confidentiality matters. Disclosures made by the designer within the 12 months before filing do not destroy novelty (grace period).

Türkiye is a member of the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs. If your international registration designates Türkiye, we monitor the designation, report any notification of refusal issued by TÜRKPATENT and prepare the response on your behalf as your local representative.

After examination, the design is published in the Official Designs Bulletin, and third parties may file an opposition within three months of publication. We file oppositions against conflicting designs and prepare responses when your design is opposed, including appeals before the Office’s Re-examination and Evaluation Board (YİDK).

We watch the Designs Bulletin for newly published designs that may conflict with your registrations and report them in time for you to decide on an opposition before the deadline.

Design protection lasts five years from the filing date and can be renewed in five-year periods up to a maximum of 25 years. We track renewal deadlines, send reminders and file renewals. Late renewal is possible within six months with a surcharge. Recordals of assignments, licences and changes of name or address are also handled.

Applicants without a domicile in Türkiye must be represented before TÜRKPATENT by a registered Turkish IP attorney. With offices in İzmir and Ankara, NORMPATENT gives you a single point of contact for filing, prosecution and enforcement of design rights in Türkiye.
